Protecting Your Energy Isn’t a Vibe — It’s a Practice

Mar 01, 2026

(And yes, I learned this the hard way.)

A few years ago, “protect your energy” had a real moment.

It was everywhere.
Instagram captions.
Mugs.
Reels.
Women declaring it like a badge of honor.

And listen — I said it too.

Meanwhile, behind the scenes, many of us were still exhausted, overextended, quietly resentful, and trying to figure out why all that “energy protection” wasn’t actually translating into peace, profit, or presence.

What I’ve come to learn — slightly to my own irritation — is this:

Protecting your energy isn’t something you say.
It’s something you practice.

And it’s one of the most foundational skills for building a business (and life) that doesn’t eat you alive.

What I Got Wrong About Protecting My Energy

I used to think protecting my energy meant pulling away.

Canceling plans.
Saying no harder.
Building thicker boundaries.

And while boundaries matter, that version of “protection” was still reactive.
Still exhausting and still me managing fallout instead of designing a life that actually fit.

Real energy protection isn’t about avoidance.

It’s about alignment.

When your choices, decisions, and rhythms align with how you’re actually wired, energy stops leaking everywhere — and starts consolidating.

The Moment It Stopped Being a Meme

The shift happened when I realized I wasn’t tired because I was doing too much.

I was tired because I was doing things out of alignment with myself.

Saying yes when my body said no.
Overthinking decisions that didn’t need thinking.
Letting other people’s urgency set the pace of my day.

That’s when I stopped treating energy like a vibe…
and started treating it like a leadership skill.

How Learning My Energy Blueprint Changed Everything

Enter: Human Design.

I’m a Manifesting Generator with Sacral Authority, which means my clarity doesn’t come from thinking harder — it comes from listening to my body.

Before I knew this, decision-making was a massive energy leak.

I’d loop.
Second-guess.
Ask too many people.
Try to logic my way into certainty.

Once I understood that my answers come quickly — as a body-based yes or no — everything changed.

Honoring that wasn’t reckless.
It was relieving.

Over time, I became clearer. Sharper. More decisive.
Not colder — just more honest.

And honesty saves an incredible amount of energy.

Decision-Making Is One of the Fastest Energy Protectors

One of the quickest ways to stop leaking energy is to stop making decisions in ways that fight your design.

Very broadly:

  • Generators & Manifesting Generators thrive with gut-based yes/no decisions.
  • Projectors conserve energy by waiting for recognition and invitations.
  • Manifestors protect energy by informing before acting.
  • Reflectors need time — clarity unfolds slowly, not instantly.

When you stop forcing clarity and start honoring how it actually arrives for you, friction disappears.

Energy follows alignment. Always.

The Calendar Audit That Changed Everything

Here’s a practical tool I come back to again and again: a time and energy audit.

Look at your calendar one week out.
Item by item.
And notice your body’s response.

Not what you should feel.
What you actually feel.

Bookkeeping? Energy drain. I outsource it without guilt.
Workouts? I sometimes resist them — but they always give me energy.
Networking events I’m already trying to get out of? That’s a no.

Your calendar doesn’t lie.
It shows you exactly where your energy is being honored — and where it’s being traded away.

One Question I Use Constantly

At the core of protecting your energy is one simple question:

Does this give me energy, or does it take energy away?

Apply it to:

  • people
  • habits
  • content
  • commitments
  • conversations

Scrolling Instagram? Takes energy.
Movement? Gives energy.
Cold plunge and sauna with my besties? Non-negotiable.
“Can I pick your brain?” coffee dates? Hard no.

This isn’t about being harsh.
It’s about being discerning.

Where Most Energy Actually Leaks

Here’s the part most people miss.

Protecting your energy isn’t just about what you do
it’s about what you let in.

Content.  Noise.  Urgency.  Other people’s emotional states.

One of the most profound shifts I made was deciding that my nervous system gets first access to my attention.

No inbox.  No scrolling.  No world noise.

When you regulate your inputs, you don’t spend the day recovering your energy — you preserve it.

The Power of Clean Endings

Another subtle but powerful energy practice: ending things cleanly.

Energy drains when things are left vague, unresolved, or emotionally unfinished.
Projects.
Collaborations.
Conversations.
Chapters of life.

Clean endings don’t require drama or long explanations.
They require clarity.

Every clean ending returns energy to you.

Unfinished loops quietly exhaust us more than we realize.

The Identity I Had to Release

One of the biggest energy leaks I see — especially in women — is the effort it takes to maintain an outdated version of ourselves.

Managing perceptions.
Being palatable.
Holding identities that no longer fit.

As we evolve, this often comes with being misunderstood.
Sometimes even disliked.

But trying to uphold an old version of yourself costs far more energy than letting it go.

When you allow yourself to be seen as you are now, your energy stops scattering.
It steadies.
It strengthens.

The Truth Beneath “Protect Your Energy”

Protecting your energy isn’t about building walls.

It’s about building self-trust.

When you trust yourself to choose honestly, rest without guilt, and engage selectively, your discernment becomes the boundary.

Not a meme.  Not a performance.

A practice.
A leadership skill.
A way of living.

And one of the most loving things you can do — for yourself and the life you’re building.
